Moving ATC Pedestals or Z Probe - Shift Soft Limits

Modified on Fri, 29 Sep, 2023 at 3:20 PM

If you need or want to shift the location of your ATC Pedestals and Z-Probe take note of the factors below:

Shifting in X

It's common to need to shift the drilling operations in X. Our install files have their origin set at the X- side of the table.

Set your origin as instructed and do a preview, then jog the machine to inspect where the extent of each part lines up.

At the far X+ side, the furthest drill hole measures 0.5" from the edge of the X+ edge of the mounting Base. It's common to have the Base edge nearly aligned with the edge of the table. Ours is roughly .150" from edge.

You would not want parts hanging off the table such it could hit the gantry upright.

Shifting in Y

You should be able to move the entire ATC Pedestal setup in Y- 0.25" to 0.5". See notes about soft limits below. Often there isn't enough travel to shift in Y+ - be careful not to run your machine into the back or off it's travel in Y+.

Soft Limits

There's the factor of moving the ATC Pedestals enough in Y- that you will need to modify the soft limit for Y in WinCNC.ini. That's called hilim (see example below).

If you jog with Soft Limits ON and it seems like you could hit the Dust Boot or anything into ATC Pedestals or Z Probe after shifting the pedestals in Y- you should adjust that soft limit smaller. In this example like 123" or appropriate for your machine - each has small differences. Too much soft limit reduction and you'll crowd your working area.

IS510 machine example.

Shifting the Z-probe stands by themselves is possible, however, you would not want to move it closer to the nearest ATC Pedestal than where we have it by default. This can cause the Dust Boot or other spindle assembly to hit the ATC Pedestals, or Z-Probe stand inadvertently.
