How Duct Size Affects Airflow (CFM)

Size Matters

The size of your duct or hose plays a dramatic role in the performance of your dust collection. The chart below shows the theoretically possible CFM and our Dust Boot in red.

Duct Diameter (IN)Max CFM Possible
122
287
3196
4349
5545
6785
71069

Other Tips

  • Reductions - Only reduce the ducting from the maximum size of the port (at Dust Collector) once you reach your dust collection source (tool, spindle, etc). You can't size up but you can size down.
  • Limit the length of flexible ducting you use to a minimum. It increases turbulence which decreases the performance of your airflow.
  • Shut off any unused tools with gates in your Dust Collection system.
