Setting lower Soft Limit in WinCNC for ShopSabre

Modified on Fri, 18 Oct at 2:43 PM

If you're having errors about lower limit-Z even though you have enough travel and tool length, you might need to set the soft limit boundary lower:

  1. Insert a known tool length into the spindle. If needed, use the command L110 T# to set the tool in WinCNC. (Replace # with the correct the tool number).

  2. In WinCNC - with the machine homed - type L21, and press enter. This will turn off your soft limits (so be careful jogging)

  3. Lower the tool slowly in Z until the bit just touches your CNC bed - below the spoilboard.

  4. Then type G37CAL in WinCNC and press Enter.

  5. The machine will automatically move to the tool height setter and it will set your new Z soft limit as the CNC bed.

If you can't reach the bed, you likely don't have a long enough tool holder / tool. Switch to a longer known length tool and try again.
